Property owners are responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining sidewalks adjoining their properties. Department of Transportation (DOT) inspect sidewalks and notify the property owner of needed repairs.
If you have received a notice of sidewalk violation, you must perform repairs within 45 days. If not, DOT may perform the work or hire a contractor to perform the work and the Department of Finance (DOF) will bill the property owner. Every flag (sidewalk square) marked with a number on the preliminary inspection report (the sketch included with the violation) must be replaced, any defects must be corrected.
